The new UK data center uses half as much power as traditional facilities.

ComputerWeekly: Capgemini has opened a new data center in the UK, which it boldly proclaims as "the most sustainable data center in the world." The facility, known as "Merlin," uses half as much power as similar facilities, thanks to a number of environmentally friendly features, which include the following:

  1. Re-use of an empty factory building
  2. Variable speed fans for cooling
  3. Flywheel UPS
  4. Modular units containing 80 percent recycled materials
  5. High power efficiency rating
  6. Building management system
  7. 99.998% uptime
