Survey Points to Simple Steps to Avoid IT Outages

A CDW survey shows that power loss, hardware failure and loss of telecom service are the most common reasons for IT outages.

Computerworld: In a survey of 200 IT managers who said that their organizations had experienced significant IT outages recently, 50 percent said the outage was caused by power failure. The next two most common causes included hardware failure and loss of telecom service.

"The survey confirms that while many businesses believe they are prepared for an unplanned network disruption, many are not -- and yet the three most common causes of IT outages are addressable," said CDW's Norm Lillis. The company advises better preparation, testing and network accessibility to prevent IT outages and/or shorten their duration.
