Microsoft Agrees to License Mobile Patents

Redmond will pay licensing fees for 74 different patents to Acacia Research Corp. and Access Co. Ltd.

Cnet: Microsoft has agreed to pay license fees for 74 patents related to smartphones. The patents are held by Access, which acquired much of the intellectual property in question from Palm, and Acacia, which has a reputation for aggressively acquiring and enforcing patents.Acacia has lawsuits pending against Apple, RIM, Motorola and other companies, and those lawsuits likely involve the same patents Microsoft has agreed to license. Microsoft has also sued smartphone makers over patents it holds.
