PCWorld: On Thursday, Canonical officially unveiled Ubuntu 10.10, codenamed "Maverick Meerkat," and announced that consumers could begin downloading the operating system on Sunday. "The objective for Ubuntu is for us to be a great consumer operating system--something everybody can use, whether they're an engineer somewhere in China or a soccer mom in America," said Canonical's Steve George. "In that context, most of the work we're doing and intending to do is making the software available to every user."
To that end, the release features a number of improvements designed to make the interface more attractive and user-friendly. It also includes new enhancements to make it easier for people to migrate to Ubuntu from Windows.
