BlackBerry Backup Encryption Broken by Russians

An alleged flaw means hackers could break into archive files after about a half an hour's worth of work.

NetworkWorld: Russian company Elcomsoft, which specializes in cracking tools, says it has a way to break into BlackBerry data backups. A flaw in the way RIM implements 256-bit AES encryption could allow hackers to figure out users' passwords in about half an hour. For business users, those backup files usually contain contacts, email, and password settings for email and WiFi.

The company says the same technique should work for Apple mobile devices.
