OpenOffice Splits from Oracle

The popular open source productivity suite will be known for now as "LibreOffice."

The Register: The OpenOffice.org project has announced a major restructuring that moves control for the open source productivity suite out of the hands of Oracle and gives it to a steering committee. The project is now called "The Document Foundation," and the actual software will be known for now as "LibreOffice."

Oracle has been invited to apply to join the Foundation and has been asked to donate the OpenOffice.org brand to the community.
