Unanimous decision will allow device makers to tap into the unused "white space" in the television spectrum.

Washington Post: In a unanimous decision, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved an order which allows unlicensed devices to tap into the unused "white space" in the television spectrum. Several tech companies, including Dell, Microsoft and Google, had lobbied hard in favor of the order.

"This new unlicensed spectrum will be a powerful platform for innovation," said FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski. "And as we've seen time and again, when we unleash American ingenuity, great things happen."
