IDC: Global Smartphone Market to Grow 55.4 Percent This Year

The company predicts that Android will gain market share at Apple's expense.

Mobile Burn: Market research firm IDC has increased its growth projections for this year's smartphone sales by 10 percent. The firm now expects smartphone sales to increase 55.4 percent compared to last year, to hit 269.6 million units.

The firm also says that between 2010 and 2014 Apple's market share will slide from 14.7 percent share to a 10.9 percent share, while Android climbs from a 16.3 percent share to 24.6 percent share.
