Google Makes It Official: Phone Calls Now in Gmail

Users can place calls for free to numbers in the U.S. and Canada through the end of the year.

Cnet: Earlier this week, reports surface that Google was testing a voice calling feature in Gmail. Now Google has officially announced that Gmail users can merge their Gmail and Google Voice accounts to make and receive phone calls through the Gmail interface.

Until at least the end of the year, users will be able to call numbers in the U.S. and Canada for free from their Gmail/Google Voice accounts. Fees for international calls will start at 2 cents per minute.
