Security Study Says Data Breaches Often Caused by Configuration Errors

A new Verizon study says hackers aren't exploiting patchable vulnerabilities.

Computerworld: Software vulnerabilities and their subsequent patches get a lot of attention, but a new study from Verizon says this type of hole isn't to blame for most security breaches. Instead, data configuration errors and bad application code causes the most problem.

According to the "2010 Data Breach Investigations Report," in 2009, there was not a "single confirmed intrusion that exploited a patchable vulnerability."
