Dell Buys 3Par to Boost Enterprise Storage Family

Dell spends $1.5 billion for technology which will boost cloud computing offerings.

Computer Weekly: Dell has confirmed that it plans to purchase thin provisioning specialist 3Par for $1.5 billion dollars. The company makes technology that allows IT managers to allocate only the storage they use. According to Dell, that can result in a 50 percent reduction in overall data management costs, a 90 percent reduction in storage administration costs and a 75 percent reduction of infrastructure costs.

Analysts note that the purchase may lead Dell to loosen its current association with EMC.
