After the same tactic worked in Saudi Arabia, Indian officials threaten to shut down BlackBerry service in the country.

Bloomberg BusinessWeek: Last week, Saudi officials and Research in Motion (RIM) reached a settlement that addressed the country's concerns after the government threatened to stop BlackBerry service in Saudi Arabia. Now India is trying the same tactic in order to get a similar deal with the BlackBerry maker.

“Our message to RIM and service providers is that if they don’t come up with a technical solution by Aug. 31, then the home ministry will take a view and will shut down BlackBerry Messenger and business enterprises services,” said Indian home ministry spokesperson Onkar Kedia.
