India Sets Aug. 31 Deadline to Solve BlackBerry Security Issue

After the same tactic worked in Saudi Arabia, Indian officials threaten to shut down BlackBerry service in the country.

Bloomberg BusinessWeek: Last week, Saudi officials and Research in Motion (RIM) reached a settlement that addressed the country's concerns after the government threatened to stop BlackBerry service in Saudi Arabia. Now India is trying the same tactic in order to get a similar deal with the BlackBerry maker.

“Our message to RIM and service providers is that if they don’t come up with a technical solution by Aug. 31, then the home ministry will take a view and will shut down BlackBerry Messenger and business enterprises services,” said Indian home ministry spokesperson Onkar Kedia.
