11 IT Skills That Command A Payday Premium

Certified systems administrators/engineers, security professionals, and applications developers are making more money.

CIO Insight: Foote Partners has released the latest edition of its IT Skills and Certifications Pay Index (ITSCPI), which measures the value of 449 certified and non-certified IT skills. For the second quarter of 2010, the value of 219 certifications jumped up an average of 0.5 percent compared to the previous quarter. Here are some other notable quarter-on-quarter increases in the market value for a variety of IT skills:

  • Systems administration/engineering certifications - up 1.1 percent.
  • Application development certifications - up 0.8 percent.
  • Networking/communications certifications - up 0.3 percent.
  • IT security certifications - up 0.1 percent.
  • Non-certified networking/systems skills - up 3 percent.
  • Non-certified application development skills - up 2.4 percent.
  • Non-certified management/methodology/process skills - up 2.2 percent.
  • Non-certified operating systems skills - up 1.5 percent.
  • Non-certified database skills - up 1 percent.
  • Non-certified SAP/enterprise skills - up 0.9 percent.
  • Non-certified Web/e-commerce skills - up 0.1 percent.
