Intel Ships Six-Core Core i7 Chip, Cuts Prices

Prices on desktop and server processors drop up to 48 percent.

TechWorld: Intel has begun shipping the Core i7-970 processor. Targeted at gamers, the six-core chip runs at 3.2GHz and has 12MB of L3 cache.

The company is dropping the prices for its lower-end Core i7-870 processor by 48 percent from $582 to $294. It's also dropping prices on other desktop and server processors as much as 44 percent.
