The iPhone 4 isn't the only hot smartphone to hit the market this summer.

InformationWeek: Despite Verizon's assurances that they would be ready to meet the demand for the Motorola Droid X phone, the new device sold out in many parts of the country. A Verizon Wireless spokesperson explained, "Customers have been enthusiastic about the launch of the Droid X by Motorola and inventory is either out or very low in some parts of the country. Customers may continue to order their phones and our expectation is the phones will ship on or before July 23. We have weekly shipments scheduled."

Verizon Wireless has not yet released any official numbers about the number of handsets sold.
