Obama Adds $800 Million For Broadband

Additional funds would be added to the $7.2 billion already pledged for bringing broadband to underserved areas.

InformationWeek: President Obama has already pledged to spend $7.2 billion on expanding the availability of broadband, and now he is adding another $800 million in grants and loans to the effort. The money would be spent on 66 different infrastructure projects, creating as many as 5,000 new jobs.

"Once we emerge from the immediate crisis, the long-term economic gains to communities that have been left behind in the digital age will be immeasurable," Obama said.
