Virtualization and open source frameworks are taking over the roles traditionally played by operating systems in the data center.

Computerworld: VMware President and CEO Paul Maritz sees a major change in the data center. Virtualization and open source frameworks are taking over the duties of operating systems. Maritz also predicts that cloud computing will become like today's x86 hardware platform, with the complexity hidden from users.
