Few IT Staffing Increases Planned

A new survey from Robert Half Technology shows that while CIO's aren't planning to cut IT staff, they also aren't planning to do a lot of hiring.

CIO Insight: According to a new survey by Robert Half Technology, more than 90 percent of CIOs have no plans to increase staffing levels this year. But on the flip side, only 4 percent of CIOs are planning cuts.

Additional survey findings include the following:

  • Among various industry sectors, CIOs in the finance/insurance/real estate fields showed the most willingness to hire, with 23 percent planning to add staff.
  • 45 percent of CIOs say it's difficult to find qualified staff.
  • 31 percent of CIOs worry that their top talent will leave for other positions.
  • Network administration and desktop support were the most in-demand skill sets.
