48Upper, HP's new social network for IT types, is nearing beta status.

InfoWorld: HP says IT pros "have lived with the stereotype of being introverted, pessimistic loners for too long." To counter those stereotypes, the company is preparing a new social network for IT workers known as "48Upper."

The network, which will be offered on a software-as-a-service basis, will offer a few features in addition to traditional social networking tools. For example, it will allow users to build and search technology libraries filled with users' answers to tech questions.

48Upper is expected to reach beta status soon.
