The virtualization leader will distribute and support SUSE Linux, as well as bundling the OS with its software appliances.

InfoWorld: Virtualization leader VMware and Novell have announced a new partnership that will bundle their products together. Customers who wish to deploy both vSphere and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server OS can purchase both products and receive support from VMware. VMware will also standardize its software appliances on SUSE Linux as well.

"VMware customers will be getting the updates or patches not only for vSphere but also for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server," said VMware's Bogomil Balkansky. Customers will enjoy a "seamless, unified maintenance and support experience" from a single vendor.

Analysts note that the arrangement is not exclusive and expect that VMware may reach similar agreements with other Linux vendors.
