Financial Times: Following the well-publicized Chinese hacking incident at the company, Google began phasing out internal use of the Windows operating system. According to unnamed employees, [Google is] not doing any more Windows. It is a security effort.
Employees say new hires at the company have to choose either a Mac or a PC that runs on Linux. Although some Google employees do still run Windows, Getting a new Windows machine now requires CIO approval, said one staffer.
Sources also said that the company plans eventually to move to its own Chrome OS.
