FCC Says US Wireless Not Competitive Enough

Friday May 21st 2010 by Datamation.com Staff

The latest annual report from the government agency says that 2.4 million Americans have only one option for a wireless carrier.

The Register: The latest annual report covering part of 2008 and most of 2009 from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) says that US consumers don't have enough choice among wireless providers. While 75 percent of Americans have three or more providers available and 90 percent have two choices, the rest have only one provider option (2.4 million Americans) or no wireless service available at all (900,000 Americans).

Industry group CTIA says it is "disappointed and confused as to why [the FCC has] chosen not to make a finding of ‘effective competition’ for that year."
