Flash 10.1, to be unveiled today, should make video run more smoothly on mobile phones.

Bloomberg Businessweek: Today at the Google I/O conference, Adobe Systems Inc. Chief Executive Officer Shantanu Narayen will take the wraps off Flash 10.1. Hoping to show that Flash can work well on mobile phones, the company will show off the technology's new features, including touch screen support, lower battery usage and the ability to take advantage of faster mobile processors for better video playback.

Piper Jaffray & Co. analyst Mike Olson notes that the product is very important for Adobe: “Given everything that’s going on between Apple and Adobe, it’s critical for Adobe to get Flash up and running on other handset manufacturers’ devices in the next six to 12 months. If they can show traction on other devices -- which will use Flash to compete against Apple -- it should take some of the pressure off.”
