The Register: Networking hardware and software providing Juniper isn't shy about taking on its much larger competitor Cisco. The company has unveiled a new plan to replace today's three-layer architecture with a two-layer architecture and eventually a one-layer architecture.
As he announced a lineup of new products and services designed to support that roadmap, company CEO Kevin Johnson claimed that in typical data centers, Juniper's offerings would reduce bandwidth requirements, power consumption, and TCO compared to Cisco products. "We're the future. They're the past," he said. "We are the only network company now that's putting a stake in the ground to take customers to a single-tier network architecture."
