Microsoft settles the case and agrees to license the VPN technology in question.

Wall Street Journal: Microsoft has settled a patent infringement lawsuit with communications security technology company VirnetX for $200 million.

The case began in February 2007, when VirnetX alleged that Microsoft Windows and Office communications server products infringed on its Virtual Private Network patents. In March, a jury recommended that Microsoft pay VirnetX $105.8 million, and VirnetX promptly filed another suit alleging that additional Microsoft products also violated its patents.

Under the terms of the settlement, Microsoft now agrees to license the technology in question.
