Microsoft Issues Workaround, Advice for SharePoint Zero-Day

Until the company can come up with a better solution, it advises SharePoint 2007 administrators to use IE 8 and disable help features.

NetworkWorld: Microsoft has come up with an effective, if inelegant, way to prevent exploits of a SharePoint 2007 vulnerability that went public last week. The company advises administrators to use Internet Explorer 8 and to disable SharePoint help features for the time being. Microsoft believes the bug is in the section of the code related to the help functions, and it says that IE8 contains a cross-site scripting filter that can help reduce risk.

The company is working on a true patch for the vulnerability, but hasn't said when it will release that patch.
