VMforce will host Java apps in the cloud.

PCWorld: VMware and Salesforce.com have announced that they are creating a new platform to host Java apps in the cloud. Called "VMforce," the service is based on the Spring development framework.

VMware's Andrew Dutton noted that developers have been asking for a service like this. "Before, they were stuck. There was no clear way through into development for the public cloud," he said.

The companies said they will release details about pricing and availability later this year.
