CIO.com: IBM has announced the availability of several new tiered storage products. First, IBM's DS8700 disk storage system will now include IBM's System Storage Easy Tier feature, which moves the most actively used data to faster solid state storage.
Second, IBM took the wraps of the newest Long Term File System. The tape-based system offers 1.5TB of capacity, or up to 3TB with compression.
The company is also adding a "many-to-one" replication feature to its ProtecTIER deduplication appliance. That allows many data centers to back up operations to one central location, and it reduces bandwidth requirements up to 95 percent.
Finally, the latest version of the XIV Storage System offers 2TB SATA drives and lower voltage processors that can reduce peak power usage by as much as 59 percent.
