ParAccel and VMware have set a new record for data warehouse analytic processing running in a virtual machine.

InformationWeek: ParAccel and VMware have announced that the ParAccel Analytic Database (a data-warehouse type analytic solution) has set a new benchmark record while running on a virtual machine. Running on 80 virtual servers in 40 HP DL380 blades, the system completed 1,316,882 composite queries per hour, beating the previous record of 1,166,976.

No one had performed a test on a virtual machine before because of a "fundamental hang-up, the perception that the overhead of the virtual machine [would] knock down performance," said ParAccel's Barry Zane. But in this case, the use of virtual machines actually boosted performance.
