CEO Marc Benioff says that enterprise software should work more like social-networking sites.

Information Week: In a speech on Thursday, Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff laid out his vision of a new era of cloud-computing. He believes enterprise cloud apps must become more accessible to mobile workers and must include more social-networking features.

"Cloud 2 is about computing for the next ten years, it's about these great new [mobile] devices, it's about real-time information and it's about collaboration," Benioff said. "Why isn't all enterprise software like Facebook? What if you knew about all of your employees, your customers, your content, your systems and your processes? I'm asking everyone to join me in what I call the Facebook imperative."

Salesforce.com plans to roll out a new "Chatter" feature that resembles social networking status updates sometime this summer.
