Adobe to Switch on Silent PDF Updates for Reader, Acrobat

The move could help reduce the risk of malware-infected PDF files, which by one estimate were responsible for 80 percent of all exploits last year.

Computerworld: Infected PDF files pose one of the largest threats to PC users--by one estimate 80 percent of all exploits last year were related to PDFs. To combat the problem, Adobe is rolling out a new silent update feature which should help keep users up-to-date on security releases.

The feature will be pushed out to users who install next Tuesday's upgrades from Adobe. However, users will have to turn on the "background update" feature themselves in order to use the new service.
