Analysts say the new enterprise-class hard drives are breaking Moore's law.

NewsFactor.com: Western Digital has released two new editions to its VelociRaptor line of enterprise-class 10,000 RPM SATA hard drives. The new drives feature 450GB and 600GB of storage and provide up to a 15 percent performance boost over previous generations.

Analyst Charles King says that these new drives show that storage is outstripping the pace predicted by Moore's law. "As opposed to every 18 months, storage tends to increase performance on the scale of anywhere from 12 to 16 months," King said. "With the new VelociRaptor disk drives, we're just seeing more evidence that even as PC performance continues to march forward inexorably, the storage industry is moving just as fast, if not even faster, to continue to enhance the performance of new PCs and high-performance workstations."
