The Electronic Frontier Foundation obtained documents showing how the Justice Department is using social networking sites to get information about suspects.

PCWorld: The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has obtained documents through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit that explains how the Justice Department uses social networking sites to obtain information about suspects. According to the papers, the feds use social networking to:

  • Reveal personal communications
  • Establish motives and personal relationships
  • Provide location information
  • Prove and disprove alibis
  • Establish crime or criminal enterprise
