The three companies are showing off a proof of concept at the RSA Conference that aims to establish a "hardware root of trust for a cloud environment."

Computerworld: At the RSA Conference, EMC, Intel and VMware have announced that they're working together to improve security and regulatory compliance for cloud computing. They're demonstrating a proof of concept that creates resource pools within a private cloud that share certain hardware and security characteristics. That helps companies comply with regulations that prevent certain types of data from being mingled with other types.

"We believe organizations using cloud services will, in the very near future, push cloud providers to better secure the hardware layer and provide greater transparency into system activities within and below the hypervisor," RSA said in a security brief related to the announcement.
