In a blog, Twitter reports that users send 600 tweets per second.

PCWorld: Defying reports that Twitter use is declining, the company posted a blog on Monday that claims the service posts 500 140-character-or-less messages every day--that's about 600 per second. When the service launched three years ago, users averaged 5,000 tweets per day. By 2008, that number hit 300,000, and by 2009, it reached 35 million.

Twitter has not released statistics on its user base, but comScore estimates that in January 2010, the site had 75 million unique visitors.
