Microsoft Updates Windows 7 Activation Technology

The software giant adds signature-based anti-piracy measures to its latest operating system.

PCWorld: Tuesday, Microsoft will make the first update to the Windows Activation Technologies for Windows 7. In addition to the key-based verification process, certain versions of Windows 7 will use a signature-based approach to make sure the user has properly obtained a license for the OS. The technology will look for clusters of changes that might indicate the user has attempted to circumnavigate the anti-piracy measures.

Microsoft says that customers who have legally obtained their version of the software and who use automatic updates should not notice the changes.
