After users complained, Microsoft stopped distributing the security patch that caused "Blue Screen of Death" errors with Windows XP.

InfoWorld: Following numerous user complaints and media reports, Microsoft halted distribution of the security patch blamed for "Blue Screen of Death" errors on Windows XP PCs. "We stopped offering this update through Windows Update as soon as we discovered the restart issues," said Microsoft's Jerry Bryant.

Saying that only a "limited number" of users were affected, Bryant added, "Our initial analysis suggests that the issue occurs after installing MS10-015 (KB977165). However, we have not confirmed that the issue is specific to MS10-015 or if it is an interoperability problem with another component or third-party software."

Microsoft has not yet offered a solution to the problem. The support thread describing the problem has been accessed more than 55,000 times.
