China Tops in Botnets, SQL Injection Attacks

A new report from McAfee says that more botnet and SQL injection attacks originate in China than any other country.

eSecurity Planet: In its recently released Q4 Threats Report, security vendor McAfee said that China has taken over the top spot for botnets, with 12 percent of botnet attacks originating in that country. With the dubious title, China replaces the U.S., which currently produces 9.5 percent of the attacks. Perhaps even more disturbing, 54.4 percent of SQL injection attacks originate in China.

"In Q4, we saw spam activity drop, but identified some interesting trends developing in terms of the geographic distribution of cyber threats and the types of threats executed," McAfee CTO Mike Gallagher wrote. "China emerged as the worldwide leader in both zombie production and the execution of SQL-injection attacks."

The U.S. retains its position as top producer of spam.
