Some of those using the latest Microsoft OS on laptops complain of premature battery warnings.

Computerworld: Even before the operating system was officially released, Microsoft was tracking complaints from users about short battery life with Windows 7. Now, the software giant has launched an investigation into problems with the tool that tells the OS when batteries are about to run out of power or when batteries are no longer able to hold a charge.

"We are investigating this issue in conjunction with our hardware partners, which appears to be related to system firmware (BIOS)," a Microsoft spokeswoman said today.

The problem appears to affect a wide variety of laptops from different manufacturers.
