ZDNet: Net Applications has just released its statistics for browser and operating system usage in January. The big news on the browser side is that Chromium gained users while both Internet Explorer and Firefox lost ground. Chrome was up from 4.64 percent the previous month to 5.20 percent share of the user base, while Internet Explorer fell slightly from 62.69 percent to 62.18 percent and Firefox slipped from 24.61 percent to 24.41 percent.
On the operating system side, Windows 7 usage ticked up to a 7.51 percent usage share, but that couldn't stop the slow erosion of Windows overall, which fell a couple a tenths of a percentage point to 92.02 percent. Mac usage was up very slightly, and Linux usage was unchanged.
