Nielsen reports that people are spending an average of five and a half hours per month on social networking sites.

ReadWriteWeb: The latest figures from Nielsen show that the average person spends five and a half hours per month on social networking sites. That's an increase of 82 percent from the average of three hours spent the year before.

Nielsen also reports that nearly half of the U.S. population visited a social networking site last month. The most popular sites were Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter.
