Apple Tablet: The Second Stage Media Booster Rocket

Monday Jan 25th 2010 by Staff

Sparking yet another round of media frenzy, Web analytics firm Flurry claims to have proof that Apple is testing 50 tablet prototypes.

Flurry: Using its Flurry Analytics tool, company officials at Flurry say they have evidence that Apple is testing Web applications on 50 devices that match the rumored characteristics of the Apple tablet computer that may be announced later this week. The blog post reads, "Because Flurry could reliably 'place' these devices geographically on Apple's Cupertino campus, we have a fair level of confidence that we are observing a group of pre-release tablets in testing. Testing of this device increased dramatically in January, with observed signs of life as early as October of last year."

Based on the type of apps being tested, Flurry believes the tablet is more likely to be targeted at consumers, not business users. That's because the top five categories of apps being tested are games, entertainment, news and books, lifestyle and utilities.
