The Kindle eReader isn't just for reading any more.

Wall Street Journal: Just days before Apple is likely to release a new tablet that could compete with Amazon's Kindle device, Amazon has announced plans to open the eReader to other applications. The company has invited developers to create applications for the Kindle that could be sold in an "app store" on Amazon later this year. Amazon would split revenues from the apps with developers, with Amazon taking 30 percent of the proceeds.

However, it's unclear how well other applications will work Kindle, which was originally intended only as an eReader. It does not offer color graphics, and the screen refreshes too slowly to view video or motion.
