Although it rarely does so, Microsoft will issue an emergency patch for Internet Explorer before the next scheduled patch Tuesday.

USAToday: In a rare move, Microsoft will issue an emergency patch for Internet Explorer before the next scheduled patch Tuesday, Feb 9. In a blog post, the company said it didn't yet know when the patch would be ready, but that information may become available on Wednesday.

The patch is a response to an attack on servers at Google and more than 30 other U.S. companies, which is believed to have originated in China. Hackers exploited a vulnerability in IE6, but researchers have since shown that the same vulnerability exists in later versions of the Microsoft browser.
