There's a Great IT Spending, Budget Disconnect Brewing

Tuesday Jan 19th 2010 by Staff

Gartner reports IT budgets will be up just 1.3 percent in 2010, while Forrester believes IT spending will be up 6.6 percent. Who's right?

ZDNet: Recent reports from Gartner and Forrester disagree about the speed of the economic recovery in the IT sector.

Gartner says IT budgets will be up just 1.3 percent this year. While an increase is good, 1.3 percent isn't nearly enough to offset 2009's decrease of 8.1 percent.

By contrast, Forrester says IT spending will grow by 6.6 percent in the coming year.

"Obviously, one of these well-known research firms is going to be wrong about IT spending," notes ZDNet. "The vastly different projections from Gartner and Forrester illustrate how no one really knows how IT budgets will turn out."
