InternetNews.com: In a recent report, UBS analyst Brent Thill says that as many as 13,800 Sun workers (roughly half the workforce) may be laid off once the Oracle deal is approved by the EU. He says that the cuts would be necessary for Oracle to achieve its target of $1.5 billion in operating income.
In an internal memo, the company denied the claim, calling it "absolutely untrue." The memo added, "Oracle is acquiring Sun to do something it cannot do alone -- deliver complete, integrated systems. Oracle will need to rely heavily on the talents of Sun employees to achieve this vision."
