Microsoft Makes it Legal to Rent Windows, Office Worldwide

Until now, renting a Windows computer at a kiosk or Internet cafe hasn't been strictly legal, but this week Microsoft has added rental licenses for Windows and Office.

ZDNet: The old Microsoft licenses specifically prohibited renting computers equipped with Windows and Office. But now those who rent computers at airports, hotels, Internet cafes, or through equipment leasing programs have the opportunity to go legit. Customers can now purchase licenses that permit rental of systems using Windows and/or office.

Through the end of June, Microsoft is offering reduced prices on the rental licenses. A rental version of Office Professional costs $58 (regularly $83 via volume discount pricing), and Office Standard (rental) is available for $45 per copy (regularly $64 per copy). A Windows rental license can be purchased for $23 per copy (regularly $32 per copy).
